Ben Free (they/them) is a New York-based production electrician, programmer, and occasional lighting designer, originally from eastern Connecticut. They have designed theatrical works, dance, and live events, and have experience as a production/head electrician across theatre, opera, and live events.
Off-Broadway: All Nighter (Programmer), FIVE The Parody Musical (Asst Production Electrician), Walden, Breaking The Story (Light Board Operator). Opera: Sensorium Ex (Set Electrics), Black Lodge (Production Electrician), Adoration (Programmer). Regional and educational: The Hunchback of Notre Dame (NJCU, Production Electrician), Anastasia (White Plains PAC, Production Electrician), resident Production Electrician at Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre.
Ben’s design credits include Orestes (Purchase Repertory Theatre), and several dance projects for the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase. They’ve also previously worked at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival as Assistant Head Electrician and ALD for PSF’s production of Fences.
Ben holds a BFA in Lighting Design from Purchase College, SUNY.
